  • Basics of the PSTE

This is the centre of the Revitalist project Practical Skills Therapeutic Education (PSTE).

The theory behind the method: Exploring how handcrafts can promote cognitive, emotional and social development, especially for those who underachieved in formal education and are socially excluded. Discussing scientific evidence on how the use of the hand and fingers is associated with mental development.

  • Genius Loci

The Spirit of Place: This concept focuses on understanding the history, geography and social characteristics of all areas where the training courses happen. This is a fundamental to find effective solutions for the social challenges.

    • Characteristic of the end-users

Based on extensive research material and studies, as well as the professional experience of several project partners, these same partners will provide presentations, in depth-discussions and group exercises that will explore in detail the social obstacles/characteristics associated with our end-users and related rooted problems: Impoverished educational and social background, unemployment, mental and physical disabilities, alcohol our substance misuse, different ethnic backgrounds, etc.

      • Economic viability and implementation strategies

This is another fundamental topic to understand how new initiatives can be implemented in different locations, overcoming their specific obstacles. We will focus on economic strategies that aim at low investments, yet are capable of generating new resources for the communities and remain self-sustainable.

        • Localization

Learners will acquire a specific type of knowledge, through direct experience, which will be provided during the theoretical and practical activities of this training. This knowledge will be processed individually, and then transposed to each of the learner’s context. How? We have created an exercise, or a final presentation where each learner will create and describe their “ideal social farm”. This will hopefully demonstrate that everything learnt during the training can be applied to all of the various learners’ contexts.

In other words, we propose learners to consider reinventing their professional activities and place them within a social farming context and this way, transform their current “localization”.

          • Library

Detailed description of Social Farm Mentor Training
For better comprehensibility of the social farm mentor training curriculum, we have prepared a handbook for those who are interested in the diverse activities of social farms (SF) and thinking about a training designed for those colleagues who work directly with the social farm target group members. The handbook provides detailed information on the teaching of the training units. The units detail the theoretical background and practical achievement of the Practical Skills Therapeutic Education (PSTE method), the specifics of the SF target groups, the aspects of long-term sustainability of SFs and last but not least the adaptability of the mentor training to different conditions.

Exploring economic viability in social farms
The economic viability handbook is a learning material for the economic viability unit of the social farm mentor training. In addition to the social and environmental aspects of sustainability, the creation of an economic pillar is inevitable, of which social farms are no exception. This handbook aims to help by explaining the main aspects of an entrepreneurial approach, calculating economic profitability, and emphasizing the role of marketing and resource creation. In the last chapter of the handbook, the reader can get acquainted with social farms operating in the Czech Republic, England, Italy and Hungary, with their operating strategies, sales concepts and the difficulties they have experienced.
